Hello, my name is Rick Campbell. I am the owner/president of Gnome. As a wee lad of six, my father showed me how to plant a vegetable garden and since then I have had a passion for horticulture. I continued this love on my farm in New Gloucester in 1975. There I grew produce and livestock. A year later I earned my bachelor’s degree in American History but decided to pursue a career doing what I loved to do. In the winter of 1977-78 I began to prune fruit trees for my new clients. While I was working in my second customer’s apple tree that year, she exclaimed of the bearded, ski cap wearing person before her, “you look like a Gnome!” And thus our name and company was born. We now employ forty men and women year-round.

When installed professionally, the landscape can be one of the best investments you’ll ever make. I have had the opportunity to co-author the books Natural Stonescapes and Landscaping Makes Cents with fellow designer and naturalist Richard Dubé. The latter book is specifically about maximizing your investment in your landscape. The research I did on this book and the decades of shared experience my staff and I have, make us extremely sensitive to your need to make financially sound landscape decisions. We understand that the landscape is a large investment. We will do everything in our power to make sure that your project with us is not only beautiful, but will add value to your home that will grow year after year.
Thank you for considering Gnome,
Rick Campbell, MCL (Maine Certified Landscape Professional)
